Pookela volleyball remains No. 102
The Pookela volleyball squad remains the 102nd seed after three losses yesterday the Volleyball Festival in Reno, Nevada.
Pookela lost to Temecula Volleyball Club of California, 21-25,16-25, Excel Volleyball Club of Washington, 16-25,27-25,8-15 and to Long Beach, Calif., 18-25,16-25.
The team of Teal Basquez, Saryna-Brooke Garcia, Janessa Grady, Malia Kagawa, Waileia Kanealii, Randee Layosa, Carly Matsomoto, Amber Naholoholo, Kayla Perez, Shealynna Ringor, Shyanne Sadora, Michaela Sullivan, Brittnee Tangalin and Krystin Yasay will play three more games today.
Canoe club hosts Tahiti Fete paddling classic
Hanalei Canoe Club’s annual Tahiti Fete fundraiser will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. This event at the pier in Hanalei Bay raises money for the canoe club, and brings the communities of Kaua‘i together for outrigger canoe paddling, food, crafts, prizes, photos and kids’ events.
There are separate events for novice and experienced paddlers.
Tahiti Fete is an opportunity for everyone to participate in this sport, even if they haven’t paddled before.
Businesses, families, organizations and visitors can put together crews. Hanalei Canoe Club provides the six-person canoe, paddles, and a steersperson for the races.
The pre-registration entry fee is $125 per crew, $150 on race day. Individuals may “buy” a seat in a canoe for $25. The entry fee for kids’ events is $5.
There will be prizes for a drawing ($5 per ticket).
