Canoe club hosts Tahiti Fete paddling classic

Hanalei Canoe Club’s annual Tahiti Fete fundraiser will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. This event at the pier in Hanalei Bay raises money for the canoe club, and brings the communities of Kaua‘i together for outrigger canoe paddling, food, crafts, prizes, photos and kids’ events.

There are separate events for novice and experienced paddlers.

Tahiti Fete is an opportunity for everyone to participate in this sport, even if they haven’t paddled before.

Businesses, families, organizations and visitors can put together crews. Hanalei Canoe Club provides the six-person canoe, paddles, and a steersperson for the races.

The pre-registration entry fee is $125 per crew, $150 on race day. Individuals may “buy” a seat in a canoe for $25. The entry fee for kids’ events is $5.

There will be prizes for a drawing ($5 per ticket).
