Happy Camper

Clarissa Chun made the Olympic girls wrestling team, but did you know that she’s related to our own Yukie DeSilva?

According to David Iha (he was at the opening of Derek Kawakami’s campaign headquarters), Chun’s grandfather, Harry Higashi, and Yukie’s dad are brothers.

Mark Oyama was at Derek’s headquarters opening as well and said there’s about a month before the Ultimate Box Lunch fundraiser. Tickets for this should be coming out soon, but check with Mark’s Place for details. Is mac salad considered a box lunch condiment?

But Mark was also at the awards ceremony for the Grove Farm/Coach Greg McMacken Celebrity golf tournament, where it rained just as the last group got under the shelter of the tent. Paul Togioka and Norman Solomon provided the music for the event and hats off to Warren Haruki and his very capable staff for hosting such a great event.

Happy birthday to Tim Bynum, who was at Derek’s opening along with state Sen. Gary Hooser, who got to listen to Derek’s speech before heading out to the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce event. Ron Kouchi was also there, having arrived from the groundbreaking of the Koloa Rum Co. Tasting Room and Gallery at Kilohana.

OK, so now that it’s Saturday, lessee … there’s Superstars Kaua‘i, first round (yes, the malasada lady is going to be open at Kmart), and the Operation Military Appreciation, in addition to flag football.
