Around 4:30 in the afternoon, yesterday, an 84-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near the post office in ‘Ele‘ele.
According to a Kaua‘i police officer on the scene, the elderly woman had just crossed Kamuali‘i Highway on the pedestrian bridge, and was walking across a feeder road when she was struck by a blue Dodge pick-up truck. There was no crosswalk in the area where the woman was struck.
According to the officer, she was headed to the post office when she was hit. Witnesses say there was some blood on the road and obvious damage to the truck was not evident.
According to emergency frequency scanner communications, an ambulance was en route to the hospital with an 84-year-old female with “severe head trauma” shortly after 4:30 p.m.
No further information was available at press time. A call to the temporary county public information officer was not immediately returned. County spokesperson Mary Daubert is on vacation. A call to the Kaua‘i Police Department was not immediately returned.
