Brad Lum-Tucker and Ikaika Jobe advanced through the opening round of the Japan F4 Futures 2008 tournament, which started on Monday in Karuiwa, Japan. The pair are now in the semifinals.
Playing in the Mens Doubles, Lum-Tucker of Kaua‘i and Jobe of O‘ahu defeated the team of Adam Hubble of Australia and Mikai Statum of New Zealand, 7-5, 7-6(5) to advance.
Stephen Bass, the only other American listed in the Main Draw, teamed with Yao-Lun Chang to also advance the opening round, defeating the third seeded team of Kyu-Tae Im of Korea and Yuichi Ito of Japan, 6-4, 6-2.
The Jobe/Lum Tucker team continued to advance through the Japan F4 Futures 2008 by getting past the Bass/Chang duo in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 7-6(6) to face the second-seeded team of Hsin-Han Lee and Hu-Huan Yi, both from Taipei.
The Kaua‘i High School graduate and current Kaua‘i tennis coach played with Jobe in several tournaments before going to Japan for this tournament.
