Ed Conrad of Waimea was the overall winner of the 8 Mile Run with a time of 45:56, at this past weekend’s Annual Ha‘ena to Hanalei 8 Mile Run/Walk, 5K Run and 1 Mile Youth Run.
Before dawn, Saturday morning, the pier area at Hanalei was filled with runners and walkers of all ages preparing themselves for the competition The 8 Mile walkers and runners were boarding shuttles to go to Ke‘e Beach. The walkers started at 6 a.m. and the runners started at 7 a.m. Back at the pier in Hanalei, the 5K runners readied themselves for a 7 a.m. start.
Pierce Murphy of Hanalei was the overall winner for the 5K in a blistering time of 16:51, which was a personal best for him. The first female across the line in the 5K was Denise Cuadrado in a time of 21:21.
Last year’s overall winner, Suzanne Messinger of Hanalei, was the first female for the 8 Mile cross to the finish line, with a time of 57:12.
The overall winner of the 8 Mile Walk was Mark Goodman of Kilauea with a time of 1:31:43.
The first female walker to cross the finish line was Tammy Goodall of Waimea with a time of 1:32:02.
Shortly after 7 a.m., the keiki lined up for the 1 Mile Youth run. Andre Schweizer of Oceanside, Calif., was the ove rall winner with a time of 5:40. Tambrina Fairbanks of Kilauea was the first female across the line with a time of 5:45.
After finishing their event, participants and their families and supporters enjoyed a pancake breakfast and awards ceremony at the Hanalei Canoe Club.
