The identity of a 51-year-old Waimea man found dead Saturday in Port Allen has yet to be released by police, who are “still trying” to notify his next of kin.
“The problem is contacting family members,” said Detective James Kurasaki, who is in charge of the ongoing investigation. “Everyone here on Kaua‘i knows each other, but it’s not as easy with family on the Mainland.”
According to the Kaua‘i Police Department, a passer-by in the Small Boat Harbor parking lot noticed a strong odor coming from a Chevrolet sport utility vehicle and, upon inspection, discovered the body.
Police have uncovered no evidence of foul play, and are simply “trying to find out how he died,” according to Kurasaki.
