Alan DeSilva
Alan Wayne DeSilva of Lihu‘e died May 27, 2008, at home at the age of 41. Born April 22, 1967, in Lihu‘e, he was a computer technician and graphic artist at Island Image and also past president and vice president for the Kapa‘a Pop Warner Association.
He was preceded in death by brother Shannon Jordan DeSilva, grandparents Fred and Mary Kenison, and grandfather Manuel DeSilva Sr.
He is survived by wife Shirlynn “Honey Girl” DeSilva; daughter Haylie DeSilva; sons Glen, Adam, Gage, Noah, Kyle and Blaz‘; parents Wayne and Rita DeSilva; brothers Kevin and Yukie DeSilva, Travis and Lisa DeSilva; hanai brother Rollin “Nui” Simao; nieces Moana (Chris Baltazar) DeSilva and Carlie DeSilva; nephews Gavin DeSilva, Dustyn DeSilva and Keanu Saito; great-nephew Cijay Baltazar; grandmother Hilda DeSilva; mother-in-law Shirley Viernes; brother-in-law Shannon; sisters-in-law Stacy, Shelley, Samantha; hanai cousin Donna; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be held Saturday, June 7, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 9 a.m., with services at 11 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and asks that flowers be omitted.

Victor Holtby
Victor Kevin Holtby of Moloa‘a died May 27, 2008, at home at the age of 53. Born June 26, 1954, in Santa Monica, Calif., he was a groundskeeper.
He is survived by parents Fredrick Holtby and Mary Alice (Paul) Murphy; brothers Paul Holtby, Chris Holtby and Mark Holtby, all of California, and Doug Holtby of Kapa‘a; and daughter Roxy Holtby.

Bernice Okino
Bernice Namie Masaki Okino of Waimea died April 12, 2008, at the age of 77. Born in Waimea, she was the owner of TK Florist.
She is survived by son Ted K. Okino, granddaughter Ashley N.E. Okino, two brothers, and six sisters, an aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 6, at Waimea Higashi Hongwanji Church; service at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested and the family requests that flowers be omitted. Private inurnment will take place at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.

Justo Peralta
Justo Aguilar Peralta of Kilauea died May 26, 2008, at home at the age of 75. Born June 1, 1932, in Santa Cruz, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he worked as a landscaper for Garden Island Shrubs & Turf Care Inc.
He is survived by wife Candida Peralta of Kilauea, daughter Perlina (Nato) Jarquio of Kilauea, sisters Aurelia Tan and Rosalia Jimenez of the Philippines, grandchildren C.J. Jarquio and Hazel Jarquio.
A celebration of his life and a viewing will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, at St. Sylvester Church; Mass will be celebrated at 8 p.m. Burial will take place in the Philippines.

James “Jimmy” Ogata of Kalaheo died May 26, 2008, at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 74. Born Dec. 10, 1933, in Hilo, he was a self-employed tile contractor.
He is survived by wife Sun Nan “Suzie” Ogata, six sons, four grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 6, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel; service at 2 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Leander Nunies
Leander Naluahi Nunies of Kalaheo died May 29, 2008, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 83. Born Feb. 27, 1925, in Pauoa Valley, O‘ahu, he was a retired federal civil service worker.
He is survived by wife Nellie Wong Hookano Nunies of Kalaheo; children Sharon Antolin of Las Vegas, Sandra Nunies, Calvin Nunies, Randy Nunies and Renee Laulusa, all of Honolulu; step-children Kemamo Hookano, Mirvine Hookano, Napua Sugai, all of Kaua‘i, Lucky Hookano of Australia and Kauhi Hookano of California; brothers Keola Nunies and William Nunies of O‘ahu; sister Genevieve Labistre of California; 17 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held.

Lillian R. Ruiz of Kekaha passed away May 15, 2008, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at the age of 74. Born Nov. 21, 1934, in Kekaha, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by husband Frank Ruiz Jr. of Kekaha; sons Richard (Tiffany) Ruiz and James (Melanie) Ruiz, both of Kekaha; three grandchildren; brother Fedor (Mary) Brandt of Kekaha; sisters Mabel Rosa of Honolulu, Alice Mcanany of Honolulu, Mary Jane of the Mainland and Linda Moreno of Kekaha; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harue Okura
Harue Okura of Hanapepe passed away May 15, 2008, at home at the age of 87. Born in 1921, in Wahiawa to Santaro and Mitsue (Koga) Wataru, she grew up in New Mill Camp. She retired as a department manager with F.W. Woolworth Co. Active for many years with the Kauai Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, she also enjoyed Japanese dance and was a longtime member of the Hanapepe Hongwanji Buddhist Temple.
She was preceded in death by husband Tamotsu Okura, son Thomas Okura, and brothers Masato Wataru and Ken Wataru.
She is survived by son Wendell (Jani) Okura of Hanapepe, daughter Eileen (Mike) Bolin of Washington, five grandchildren; brothers Ralph (Anna) Wataru and James Wataru of Honolulu, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Private services will be held at a later date.
