Benjamin Nakaahiki
Benjamin Nakaahiki Sr. of Kekaha died May 20, 2008, at his home at the age of 84. Born Sept. 29, 1923, in Kekaha, he was a retired heavy equipment operator with the Dept. of Transportation Highway Division.
He was preceded in death by wife Esther Kaowiloa Nakaahiki; sons Garrick K. Nakaahiki and Marvin T.K. Nakaahiki.
He is survived by sons Thomas L.M. (Alice) Baptista, Benjamin Nakaahiki Jr., Brenn N.K. (Eileen) Nakaahiki, Joseph I.K. (Nani) Nakaahiki and Clyson T.K. Nakaahiki, all of Kekaha; daughters Charlene S.K. (Dexter) Yamamoto, Benjinette P. (Kevin) Iwai, Marvaleen K. (Burt) Vidinha, Trudilynn N. (Greg) Wood and Elena K. (Rob) Ruark, all of Kekaha; daughter-in-law Oriente Nakaahiki; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kekaha Ward; service 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Burial to follow at the Kekaha Hawaiian Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.

Cayd Cecilio Kahanuola Rikio Fujimoto of Hanapepe died May 20, 2008, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 4 1/2 months. Born January 6, 2008, in Waimea, he was a happy “Buddha Boy” with a smile on every day.
He is survived by parents Craig and Carey Fujimoto; brother Cyrus Fujimoto of Hanapepe; big brother Lucus Rivera of Po‘ipu; sister Caitlyn Aguinaldo of Hanapepe; great-grandparents Hatsumi Fujimoto of Las Vegas, Nev., Esperanza Funtanilla of San Francisco, Calif., Loretta Baliaris of Honolulu and Julia Dixion of Hanama‘ulu; grandparents Robert Fujimoto of Hanapepe, Antonia Funtanilla of San Francisco, Calif., Cecilio and Patricia Baliaris of Hanama‘ulu; uncles and aunts Mason Fujimoto and Anson Fujimoto, both of San Francisco, Calif., Shawne (Yvette) Baliaris of Lihu‘e, Adrian Baliaris of Kaua‘i, Brandon (Randi) Baliaris of Kapahi, Patti-Ann (Rueben) Castillo of Hanama‘ulu, Lori (Aren) Baliaris of Puhi and Celina (Dana) Rivera of Po‘ipu; and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, at Kings Chapel in ‘Ele‘ele; service at 10 a.m. Casual attire is suggested and the family requests that flowers be omitted.

Shizuko Nagamine
Shizuko “Nora” Nagamine of Hanapepe died May 17, 2008, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at the age of 84. Born March 20, 1924, in Wailuku, Maui, she was the owner of Taro Ko Chips.
She was preceded in death by husband Suoichi “Shopie” Nagamine; and brothers Melvin and Lawrence Nagamine and Stanley Miyashiro.
She is survived by sons Nathan (Alynette) Nagamine of California, Brian (Shahlynn) Nagamine of Hanapepe and Dale Nagamine of Hanapepe; brothers Robert (Loretta) Nagamine of Maui, Yoshio Nagamine of Maui and Takeo Nagamine of California; sisters Kameko Taira of Mililani and Thelma Shibata of California; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, at Hanapepe Hongwanji Church. Casual attire is suggested.

William Vales
William Sata Vales of Pearl City, O‘ahu, died May 26, 2008, at his home in Pearl City at the age of 80. Born Jan. 13, 1928, in ‘Ele‘ele, he was a machinist for the U.S. government.
He was preceded in death by brothers John and Tony Vales; and sisters Lucy Macheco and Carmen Rivera.
He is survived by wife Laura Vales; son Michael Vales; daughter Patricia Ann Laley; brother Henry Vales; sisters Virgie Torres and Emily Toledo; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation and memorial services will be held from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Monday, June 2, at ‘Ele‘ele Sacred Hearts Church; Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Casual attire is suggested.

Carolyn Lou Leimomi Hung Moi Apana of Kapa‘a died May 27, 2008, at Samuel Mahelona Hospital at the age of 69. She was born April 10, 1939, in Lihu‘e.
She was preceded in death by parents Earnest and Christian Apana; and sisters Shirlet Apana-Miike and Lovey L.Y.C. Apana.
She is survived by sisters Dorna E. Ginden (Justin Mahelona) of Las Vegas, Lynette K. Niau (Kahea White) of Anahola and Beverly H. Muraoka (Ernest Muraoka, deceased) of Kapa‘a; brother Russell (Lori) E. Apana of Washington; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa; services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens at 12:15 p.m. Casual attire is suggested.
