Two injured in Hanalei stabbing

HANALEI — A 32-year-old man and 24-year-old woman, both from Hanalei, were in serious condition at Wilcox Memorial Hospital yesterday after being stabbed by a homeless man in Hanalei Friday night.

Aerial Star, 23, was arrested at the scene for one count of second-degree attempted murder and one count second-degree assault against Patrick Coan and the woman, whose identity has was not available at press time.

County officials said the stabbings happened after a fistfight involving all three in the courtyard area of Ching Young Village just before 9 p.m.

According to an eyewitness, Coan, a manager at the nearby Hanalei Surf Co., suffered wounds to the chest and arm. He and Star had been arguing over a woman romantically involved with one of the two when the fight escalated, the witness said.

Both Coan and the woman were taken to Wilcox for emergency surgery and care.

Police are still investigating the incident.
