Patricia Jarrett
Patricia Linda Jarrett of Kapa‘a died on April 21, 2008 at the age of 60. Born Oct. 25, 1947, in Jersey City, N.J., she was a retired secretary for Holiday Inn.
Preceded in death by her father Frederick Walters. She is survived by her mother Irene Walters of Kapa‘a, sister Pamela (Kim John) Potter and husband Daniel Alcaraz.
Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. Friday, May 16, at Honolulu Borthwick Mortuary Mauka Chapel. Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. For family and friends who won’t be able to attend the services in Honolulu, there will be a memorial service on Kaua‘i on Saturday, May 31, at 11 a.m. at 7021 Holopono Place in Wailua Homesteads. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

Madeline Ortiz
Madeline Abreu Ortiz of Koloa died on May 6, 2008 at the age of 90. Born Feb. 12, 1918, in Makaweli, Kaua‘i, she was a chambermaid at the Waiohai, Hale Nani and Sheraton Hotel.
She is survived by six daughters; Irene Randall of Kekaha; Jan Poe of Hanama‘ulu; Dulinda Maria (Louis) of O‘ahu; Charlene Bukoski of Kapa‘a; Barbara Garcia (Andrew) of Koloa; and Elizabeth Kane (Hiram) of Koloa; one sister, Rose (James) Rapozo of Lihu‘e; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. on Friday, May 16, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary in Koloa. Services will begin at noon. Burial to follow at the Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Katherine Lam
Katherine (Kathy) Anne Lam died peacefully April 13, 2008, at her home in Kapa‘a at the age of 54. Born July 12, 1953, in Falls Church, Va., she was a certified nurses aide for Nursefinders.
Lam had no known relatives, but her family was her many friends, who all loved her dearly and will remember her always with love. She has many friends from Friendship House where she had found much love and compassion. She also had many close and casual friends on the island.
Lam worked incredibly hard to bring her skills up to a very high standard and gave kind and loving home care to many elderly and disabled here on Kaua‘i.
Lam will be remembered as an exceptionally kind, giving, compassionate and trustworthy friend to all. She will be greatly missed.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, May 13, 10 a.m. at the Calvary Chapel, Kapa‘a. Friends may gather at Friendship House following the service for refreshments.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted with the arrangements.
Joseph Freitas
Joseph R. Freitas of Kilauea died on May 11, 2008 at the age of 86. Born May 1, 1922, in Hawai‘i, he was a dentist for the United States Army.
He is survived by his brother William Freitas of Kilauea; five sisters: Josephine Guillermo of Honolulu; Hilda Camara of Reno; Annabelle Hirschi of California; Lorretta (Donald) Boro of Kilauea; and Kathleen Poe of O‘ahu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Friday, May 16, at St. Sylvesters Church. Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Casual attire is suggested.

James Inouye
James M. Inouye of Kapa‘a died on April 29, 2008 at the age of 72. Born June 16, 1935, in Hawai‘i, he was a Land and Natural Resources employee.
He is survived by his sister Sumie Shiroma, numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held on May 8, 2008 at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Arrangements were handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Pamela West
Pamela West of Kaua‘i died on May 8, 2008 at the age of 78. Born July 7, 1929 in Iowa, she was an office administrator.
She is survived by her three children: William “Bill” (Doreen) West; Kathy (Mike) Anderson and Barb (Greg) Johnson; eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
Services were held May 12 at the Koloa Union Church.
Arrangements were handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
