KAPA‘A — A fire Monday night extensively damaged a mixed paper bin and its contents at the Kaua‘i Recycles site located near the Kapa‘a Armory. No one was injured in the fire; however, it prevented the recovery of valuable resources.

No one was injured in the fire; however, it prevented the recovery of valuable resources.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Information about the fire or activity near the Kaua‘i Recycles sites can be reported to the Kaua‘i Police Department at 241-1711 or the Recycling Office at 241-6891.
The Kaua‘i Recycles program has seen continued growth over the past few years.
Last year the program diverted large amounts of material from the Kekaha Landfill, including 227 tons of newspaper, 304 tons of glass, four tons of aluminum, 36 tons plastic and 315 tons of mixed paper.
There are eight drop bin locations around the island, including Brennecke’s Beach Broiler in Po‘ipu, ‘Ele‘ele Shopping Center, Hanalei transfer station, Kapa‘a Armory, Kaua‘i Resource Center, Kekaha Landfill, Kmart back parking lot, Lawa‘i Post Office and Waimea Canyon Park.
