The Kaua‘i Academy of Creative Arts has a program for young artists 5 to 6 years old called Art Zone. The morning program runs from 8 to noon and the afternoon program from 12:40 to 4:40.
Students may enroll for full day or half day.
Art Zone students stay in one classroom with their instructor as they explore, experiment and discover the arts with their peers. Art Zone allows artists the freedom to learn in a safe and supportive environment tailor-made for their young spirits. Instructors guide students through a creative process involving a variety of visual art materials and give students an opportunity to experience the art of performance through storytelling, dramatic play and movement.
Kim Miller, the morning program instructor, holds a degree in child development, a teaching certificate in Waldorf/Steiner education from Emerson College in Britain and a post-graduate degree in experiential and creative arts therapy earned in Melbourne, Australia.
The afternoon program is lead by Lindsey Heddleston. Heddleston enjoyed many summers as both a camp counselor and program director for the Shrine Mont Art Camp and she is a graduate of the University of Virginia where she studied art and poetry. Lindsey is currently at the Kula Elementary School in Kilauea.
