PUHI n Around midnight Thursday a blaze broke out at a home in Puhi resulting in damages to the structure and injuring an occupant through smoke inhalation.
The resident, a 51-year-old man, was found lying on the ground outside the house suffering from smoke inhalation when firefighters and police arrived, states a county press release.
The home on Mano Street sustained $60,000 in damages from the fire mostly contained to the enclosed garage, although some smoke damage was reported throughout the house, states the release.
The occupant was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. As of yesterday, the man was in fair condition, states the release.
Fire officials credit neighbors’ quick actions as the reason why the fire didn’t spread. They awakened the residents of the burning garage and used their garden hoses to try to put out the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
