A speaker event in Hanapepe will address the issue of agricultural pesticide usage near communities and GMOs, tonight in Hanapepe.
Lorrin Pang, a public health specialist on Maui, will talk about the dangers of agricultural chemicals. Hector Valenzuela, a vegetable crops extension specialist at the University of Hawai‘i’s College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, will educate about the potential hazards of GMO crops and foods.
The guest speakers will begin at 7 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Hanapepe, 4481 Kona Road, across from the fire station. The speakers were originally scheduled to appear in Kekaha at a community tent event, but have secured their own venue to offer a more thorough presentation.
The gathering will be limited to discussion of GMOs and agriculture in relation to the pesticide spraying near schools in Waimea and Kekaha.
