There is still time for athletes to take part in the Hershey’s track and field meet which will take place this Saturday at Vidinha Stadium from 2:30 p.m.
That is the word from officials from the county’s Parks and Recreation Department after the completion of two days of track and field events in the annual age group meet.
Westside schools topped both the elementary and middle school divisions upon completing two days of track and field events held at Vidinha Stadium.
Following the extended meet Saturday night, ‘Ele‘ele School was named the winning school with 203 points accumulated
They were followed by the Elsie Wilcox Elementary School who finished with 104 points to edge out Kapa‘a Elementary School.
Outstanding athlete for the elementary division was
Elijah Fox of Kekaha School, who finished with 24 points.
Sariah Ijima, whose sister Krystal enjoyed a perfect day in hitting with the Kaua‘i High School softball team, was named the outstanding female athlete for the elementary division, the Wilcox School student collecting 20 points for the honor.
Following a tight competition Sunday, Waimea Canyon School was named the winner of the Middle School division with a total of 194 points. The Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School athletes earned runner-up honors with 152 points.
Bryson Cayaban, a WCMS student, wowed the audience with his performances that led to first finishes in the Boys 50, 100 and 400 meter runs en route to Cayaban being named the Outstanding Male Athlete for that division.
Reanna Javinar of CKMS topped the softball throw and picked up wins in the 100 Meter and 400 Meter runs and was named the Outstanding Female Athlete for that division.
In the 50 Meter Dash, Cayaban stopped the clock at 6.84 before dominating the Boys 100 Meter Dash on a 12.69 run. In the 400 meter event, Cayaban edged out the field on a 1:03.40 run over the efforts of fellow WCMS student John Tangalin whose problems with baggy shorts stopped the clock at 1:04.61.
Coming off her winning throw in Girls Softball, Javinar set the stage for the runs when she bested fellow CKMS runner Kawehi Louis-Diamond on a 13.48 preliminary heat, Louis-Diamond running a heat earlier on a 13.86 run.
That set the stage for the finals of the six-heat field which was dominated by Javinar who stopped the clock at 12.96 in the finals, chased by Louis-Diamond.
In the Girls 400 Meter Dash, Javinar again topped the event, running in the first heat on a 1:08.00 lap.
Holly Kaiakapu of WCMS topped the second heat with a 1:16.41 run.
According to Aaron Uyeda of the county’s Parks and Recreation Department, full official results of the two-day meet will be available Wednesday.
