Waimea 14, Kapa‘a 4 – KAPA‘A — Waimea improved to 6-6 on the season with a 14-4 win on 17 hits over Kapa‘a, yesterday.
Waimea’s Kelly Batis, 3-5, had a 2-run homerun, but Chris Yee, second baseman for Kapa‘a, saved the season for Warrior catcher Wes Abalos whose heart sank after Batis’ homer in the fifth inning gave Waimea an 11-0 lead.
But the Warriors wouldn’t go away as Menehune senior Bully Pancho walked Randall Jacinto and Weston Moniz got aboard on an error.
Yee plopped his 2-RBI Texas League Single on target to drive both Warriors home to continue the game which would’ve ended on the 10-run rule.
Abalos’ spirits rose, and in the seventh, with two away, cracked the first offering by closer Batis for a double. Yee’s second hit of the day drove Abalos home for the final.
Batis, who had a no-hitter going before being relieved by Keith Nonaka, closed for Waimea, although the win goes to Nonaka.
