Melina Obar went the distance in two games to lead Kapa‘a to victory over Waimea Saturday at the Waimea Canyon Park.
Playing on a delayed start due to testing, the Warrior freshman pitcher picked up the wins in Kapa‘a’s 7-2 and 10-3 wins, finishing the day with six strikeouts in each game.
Waimea’s Shelly Koerte suffered the loss, giving up seven runs on 13 hits in Game 1 while striking out four Warrior hitters.
In Game 2, Koerte got help from Brandee Matsushima who came in on the fourth inning, but Koerte suffered the loss in three innings.
Kapa‘a found the long ball in Game 1, as Kori Kimura, 4-4, and Jocelyn Enrique, 3-3, tripled.
Kimura finished the day by scoring three times while Enrique finished by scoring twice and marking an RBI.
Leeanna Altazar finished 4-4 with four RBI in Game 1 while Obar and Larae Hoopii each singled, Hoopii scoring once in the fourth and Amber Pigao scoring once in the seventh.
Waimea could not get on the board until the seventh frame, but scored when Elisha Nabeshima marked two RBI on a double. Ona Defabian and Mariebeth Watanabe also singled for Waimea.
The Menehune hitting improved in Game 2, paced by Kanani Mata, 2-4, with a single and a triple. Ipo Constantino, 1-3 doubled and scored once in the second frame.
Nabeshima continued to fuel the Menehune effort with another RBI in Game 2, finishing 1-2 and scoring once in the fourth.
Jazzelyn Bradbury was a perfect 1-1 on a single and scored in the sixth inning. Laura Rita, 1-2, singled and marked an RBI for the Menehune.
Kimura continued with the hot bat for the Warriors, finishing 4-5 with two RBIs and scoring twice, once in the first and seventh frames.
Enrique, 3-5, whacked into a pair of singles and a double to finish with an RBI and scoring twice, also in the first and seventh frames.
Baltazar, 4-5, marked four RBIs and scored in the third inning, finishing the day with three singles and a two-bagger.
Obar upped her batting in Game 2, finishing 2-4 with an RBI and scoring once in the third.
Pigao singled and scored twice, and Hoopii scored once in the seventh.
Hanalei Gomes finished with two singles and Lokelani Manku was 1-4 with a single and scoring in the seventh.
With the sweep, the Warriors prepare to meet the Red Raiders in Kaua‘i’s final home game of the season tomorrow at Isenberg Park. First pitch is at 5:30 p.m.
