Kauai Sings! A Tribute to Irving Berlin
7 p.m. tonight and tomorrow Hukilau Lanai
This Kauai Sings will be a tribute to Irving Berlin. Tickets are now on sale at Malama Pono on Rice Street. This event is a fundraiser to benefit Malama Pono, the island’s only dedicated prevention and care provider for HIV, infectious hepatitis and other sexually transmitted diseases. Faith Harding, coordinator of development for Malama Pono said, “Irving Berlin is considered by many to be the greatest American songwriter ever. He wrote over 1,000 songs but could not even read music. Many people know his songs: “God Bless America,” “What’ll I Do,” “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” “White Christmas,” “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” and the soundtrack to “Annie Get Your Gun.” Kaua‘i theater patriarch Arnold Meister will act as emcee and singer for the evening. Many Kaua‘i Sings regular performers like the “Swing Sisters” and “Richard Porto” will be featured, but we will also have some great new additions like voice teacher Dolly Kanekuni, playwright Michele Rundgren, Ivo Miller and the Island School Chorus. Advance ticket purchases are recommended as both nights are expected to sell out.
Tickets are $20 in advance, $15 for students and $25 at the door. Tables of 10 are available for $200. Purchase tickets by calling 246-9577 or stopping by the Malama Pono office.
