HANAPEPE — Paul Correa pinch hit in the sixth inning and drove in two runs in Waimea High School’s 12-2 win over Kapa‘a High School in six innings.
The two RBIs from Correa gave the Menehune the 10-run lead they needed to end the morning game early.
Andrew Ouderkirk pitched a full game, allowing only two hits, striking out five and walking one. Allen Pancho went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Kelly Batis was also 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Gavin Jardin was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Jordan Kitabayashi finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Game 2: Waimea 7, Kapa‘a 4
Waimea got to hitting early in Game 2 with Pancho getting the first hit at the bottom of the first. After taking two balls and fouling his second pitch, Pancho hit a line drive down the right. Batis was walked, and Kapa‘a’s Tyson Lopez threw a wild pitch off to Jardin, which advanced Pancho and Batis to second and first.
Jardin then went to a full count before driving in Pancho.
The bottom of the second proved to be Waimea’s best frame, when they scored four runs. Fernandez hit a triple through the center for an RBI and Jardin got another hit with an RBI double.
Chris Kaiakapu got the win, improving Waimea to 2-1 Round 1, 5-4 on the season.
Pancho finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jardin finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Dylan Ishihara went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Kapa‘a outhit Waimea, but was unable to capitalize on it. B.J. Aiwohi was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Wes Abalos went 3-for-4 with a run scored and Randall Jacinto was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
The next game is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, when Kaua‘i High School hosts Kapa‘a at Vidinha Stadium.
