“It was actually more than I expected. I loved it,” said Kaua‘i Academy of Creative Arts’ workshop participant Kari Noe of Kalaheo.
“I actually thought it would be a teacher saying ‘just draw this’ and give us some instructions. But we got to pick our own topic.”
Noe, along with students from Ha‘ena to Hanapepe, participated in the Academy’s inaugural March intercession workshop held in partnership with the National Tropical Botanical Gardens.
Kaua‘i Academy of Creative Arts’ has expanded from an exclusively summer schedule to one that addresses the adoption by Kaua‘i’s public schools of a year-round schedule. In addition to a four-week summer program, the Academy now offers programming during the March, October and January intercessions.
This first workshop provided students an opportunity to work “en plein air” with a variety of materials under the direction of local artist and educator Penny Nichols.
The next offering from the Academy is their well-established and much-loved summer programming. This year’s program runs June 16 through July 11 and offers classes in the visual and performing arts for children ages 5 through 13.
