Kaua‘i’s kupuna have a lot to offer, and some of their accomplishments and achievements will be celebrated on May 8.
In a press release from Mary Daubert, the county’s public information officer, 16 outstanding seniors will be honored at the 42nd annual Older American Awards Recognition Ceremony.
The event will be held on May 8, starting at 9 a.m., at the Hilton Kaua‘i Beach Resort, and is part of the celebration of May’s being Older Americans Month.
“Working Together for a Strong, Healthy Kaua‘i,” the theme of this year’s celebration, will see how the honorees have contributed to the island and its many communities.
Elizabeth Kapeka Azeka, Josephine Bandmann, Raymondo Domingo, Basilio Fuertes, and Mel Gabel are among those who will be recognized for the awards, the release states.
Also nominated are Nancy Golden, Nancy Harada, Naoko Ho, Richard “Soupbone” Kashiwabara, and Katherine Martin.
Marilyn Matsumoto, Betty Matsumura, Howard Nagaoka, Haruko Otsubo, Irene Randall, and Roberta Weil round out the list of nominees for Outstanding Older American.
The names of Kaua‘i’s Outstanding Male and Female Older Americans will be announced during the ceremony.
