Toshikatsu ‘Thomas’ Yamamoto
Toshikatsu “Thomas” Yamamoto of Koloa passed away on March 20, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 83. He was a plantation worker with Lihu‘e Plantation.
He is survived by son Keith (Raynette) Yamamoto of Koloa; daughter Paula Yamamoto of Koloa; six grandchildren; brother George (Marion) Yamamoto of Honolulu; sisters Amy Yamamoto of California, Makiko Koyanaji of Honolulu, Masako (Fred) Kimura of Honolulu and Shizuko Morita of ‘Ele‘ele; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel; service begins at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Earl LeLand Waiwaiole
Earl LeLand Waiwaiole of Kapa‘a died on March 10, 2008, at Straub Clinic and Hospital in Honolulu at the age of 58. He was born on October 12, 1949, on Kaua‘i. He is survived by his wife Virginia Waiwaiole; son Elijah Waiwaiole; daughters Sherrice Waiwaiole, Earlette Waiwaiole, Randi Keilii Waiwaiole and Billie Jean Mahina Waiwaiole; brother Ainsley Kaipo (Wendy) Waiwaiole and DeHarn Waiwaiole; sister Tamrae (Fred) Kaholi; and grandson Keanu Dean Kinsell-Waiwaiole.
A celebration of his life will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, at the Lihu‘e Kauai Veterans Center; service begins at 2 p.m.
Sandy Irwin Obrero
Sandy Irwin Obrero of Anahola died on March 12, 2008, at the age of 69. Born on Kaua‘i on May 25, 1938, he was a foreman for Rego Construction and Hawaiian Dredging Co.
He is survived by his wife Helen A. Obrero; children Sandra (Hanu) Vea, Donna M. Obrero, Jonathan M. Obrero, Hattie Obrero, all of Anahola, and Darlene L. (Alvin) Sasil of Wailua; brother Edward Obrero of Lana‘i; sisters Lorraine (Peter) Borrero of Puhi and Mildred Kealoha of O‘ahu; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. with services beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 31, at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Manuel ‘Mac’ Kalanikaou Medeiros
Manuel “Mac” Kalanikaou Medeiros of Oma‘o passed away on March 16, 2008, at his residence at the age of 90. Born on Oct. 21, 1917, in Koloa, he was a Civil Defense Director with the County of Kauai Civil Defense.
He is survived by his wife Kazue H. Medeiros; sons Allen D. (Peggy) Medeiros of Bend, Ore., Kenneth C. (Christine) Medeiros of Torrance, Calif., Michael B. (Melanie) Medeiros of Oma‘o and Timothy M. Medeiros of Oma‘o; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Florence Loebl of Honolulu; and numerous nieces nephews and cousins. Services were private.

John ‘Jack’ Carr
John “Jack” Carr of Lihu‘e died at home on March 20, 2008, at the age of 81. He was born on Oct. 26, 1926, in Boston, Mass., and was the owner of Nevada Glass Service and Jack’s Glass & Screen here on Kaua‘i.
He is survived by his wife Suzanne Carr of Lihu‘e; three children, James Michael Carr of California, Sharon Marie Stephens of Florida, Wendy Ann Porter of California; sister Patricia Ann (Pete) Penner of California; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his faithful and loving companion, Sandy.
A celebration of his life will begin with visitation at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, at Lihue Missionary Church with services at 5 p.m. The family requests casual or aloha attire and declines flowers.

Edith “Edie Jo” Mary Joan Lopes of Hakalau died on March 19, 2008, at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu at the age of 38. Born on Oct. 15, 1969, she was best known as an award-winning entertainer.
She is survived by her mother Nancy Lopes of Hakalau; brother George Lopes III of Hakalau; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, March 28, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Papaikou; Mass is at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Mauna Kea Memorial Cemetery. The family requests casual attire and no flowers.

Stanley Medeiros of Kalaheo died March 14, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 79. Born March 9, 1929, in Lihu‘e, he was a draftman.
He is survived by his brother Vincent (Alice) Medeiros of California; sister-in-law Vivian Medeiros of O‘ahu; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo; Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Father Nap. Burial will follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Casual attire is suggested.
