KALAHEO — Kaulupono Girl Nicole Palacio scored six of her game-total 10 points in the final two periods Monday night.
But those were pivotal points for the team coached by Pedro Saligumba and Bobby Kamakele as the girls in blue came back against the Kamikaze Red for a 22-19 win in the county’s 11 and Under girls basketball league.
Earlier in the night, the Gee’s Angels, lacking the services of Lele Hanie due to an injury, relied on Uilani McCabe to lead the blueshirts to a 19-15 edge over the Kamikaze Whites who were also missing a key player.
Trailing 17-10 after four periods, Palacio’s shooting brought Kaulupono back into the game in the fifth frame when one of her buckets pulled Kaulupono into the lead for the first time in the contest.
Kaelyn Aquino-Kama-kele, who broke the lid on the Kaulupono scoring in the second period, finished with buckets in the fifth and sixth frames to ice the victory.
Palacio topped the contest with 10 points followed by Kamakele’s 8 points.
Shyanne Almarza topped the Kamikaze Red scoring with 8 points followed by Annie Ballesteros adding 6 points.
Kawai Calderon’s hustle paid off for the Kamikaze White, but the absence of Pili Chung, who was playing soccer on the Mainland, was felt as Calderon was all alone in high-point honors for the White, finishing with 8 points.
McCabe finished with a game-high 15 points for the Gee’s Angels.
