WAIMEA — Harold Shimono, Jr. narrowly won his first set 7-6 (5) and took Sterling Inouye to extra games in the second, going down at 5-7. But Shimono came out on top in the third at 6-2 and Waimea High School’s boys tennis team defeated Kaua‘i High School, 3-2, yesterday in Waimea.
No. 2 Darrel Nonaka won his match in two sets over Manny Cagden, 6-1, 6-1.
Kaua‘i was able to pull off two wins in the doubles matches with Chris Flynn and Tim Rokohl defeating Jordan Sato and Michael Haack, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3, and Tyrus Ceria-Lux and Domingo Loero beating Randy Umetsu and Bryle Rivera, also in three sets, 4-6, 6-4 and 6-4.
In Waimea’s other doubles match, Joshua Quinlan and Joshua Ponting defeated Lance Matsumoto and Peter Nguyen, 6-3 and 6-4.
Girls: Waimea 3, Kaua‘i 2
Kaua‘i’s top two girls players, Sarah Kukino and Dasha Lagmay won their matches, but Waimea won with their doubles matches, 3-2.
Kukino defeated Candice Klein 6-1, 6-2. Lagmay defeated Miyu Adachi 6-1, 6-2.
In the doubles matches, Tiffany Lum and Jade Cano were challenged by Lizzy Schiller and Jessica Castillo, and won 6-4, 6-3. The pairs of Ceci Sun and Beverly Grande and Lee Ann Sagucio and Dessa Rentrop won their matches in two sets.

PO‘IPU — Kapa‘a High School’s boys tennis team swept the three matches played yesterday, beating Island School 5-0.
Top Warrior Chas Okamoto beat Sam Dunham 6-2, 6-3 and Adam Kerlin won his match against Ashton Perez, 6-4, 6-3.
Kila Youn and Steven Pascual knocked off Logan Domingo and Hunter Coberly, 6-1, 6-1.
Kapa‘a won the next two double matches by default as Island School did not another set of pairs to play.

The Lady Warriors also swept the Voyagers yesterday at the Kiahuna Swim and Tennis Club.
Kapa‘a’s Lyndsey Tom won over Madison Duarte in a quick two set match, 6-0, 6-1.
Kirsten McCracken was stretched to three sets by Sheena Iwamoto, but prevailed, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) and 6-4.
In the doubles matches, Cherine Ito and Tori Yatogo beat Taylor James and Julli Blachowiak, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).
Alexsis Valdez, Sierra Mayer, Jazzerie Taeza and Angela Mones wrapped up the final two doubles matches for Kapa‘a, both winning in two sets.
