Hajime Morita
Hajime Morita of Hanama‘ulu passed away on Feb. 29, 2008, at Mahelona Memorial Hospital at the age of 104. Born on Sept. 7, 1903, in Moloa‘a, he was a milkman with Lihue Plantation.
He was preceded in death by son Mitsuo (Lillian) Morita, and son-in-law George Senda.
He is survived by sons Haruo (Daisy) Morita of Gardena, Calif., Kaoru (Phyllis) Morita of Honolulu and William (Sanae) Morita of Lihu‘e; daughter Mabel Senda of Lihu‘e; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday, March 7, at the Kapaa Jodo Mission; services will begin at 10 a.m. and will be officiated by Rev. Akia. Casual attire is suggested and the family requests that flowers be omitted.

Ah Sau Ahana
Ah Sau Ahana of Lihu‘e died on Feb. 24, 2008, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 100. Born on Dec. 19, 1907, he was a retired deputy auditor and deputy finance director for the county of Kaua‘i for 48 years. He was also known as Kaua‘i’s best Hawaiian music steel guitar player for over half a century. He was a proprietor of Ahana Motel & Apartments.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary E. Ahana; daughter Joyce Watanabe; and grandchild Garrett Shiets.
He is survived by daughters Carol (Edwin) Kondo of Honolulu, Janice Shiet of Kane‘ohe, Eli Kikuchi of Lihu‘e; grandchildren Eric Kondo, Keith Kondo, Joni (Harold) Tanaka, Laurie (Richard) Apiki, Wanda (Wesley) Yoyama, Kevin Watanabe, Lianne Watanabe, Ross Watanabe of Honolulu, Kent (Lori) Kikuchi of Lihu‘e, and Keri (Ben) Kobayashi of Hilo; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, at Lihu‘e First Hawaiian Church where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. Casual attire is suggested.

Susan Jeanette Carvalho
Susan Jeanette Carvalho Farris of Lihu‘e died Feb. 29, 2008, at Garden Isle Healthcare at the age of 62. She was born Susan Jean-ette Thompson on Dec. 6, 1945, in Spokane, Wash. She was a lifelong employee in the food service industry, starting out at Golden Cape at the Kauai Surf Hotel and ending at the closing of the Camp House Grill in Kapa‘a.
She was preceded in death by husband Robert Farris; son James “Jimbo” Roy Carvalho Jr.; and granddaughter Jessica Kuuipo Carvalho.
She is survived by daughter Jeanette Ruth Carvalho, sons Jeffrey Ross (Shelly) Carvalho, Jason Robb Carvalho; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; best friend Jackie Lucidarme-Ya-sutake and buddy Rudy.
She will be remembered for her great wit and friendliness.
Private services will be held.

Kiichi Odo
Kiichi Odo of Waimea passed away on Feb. 11, 2008, in Honolulu at the age of 88. Born July 23, 1919, in Waimea, he was a retired Meadow Gold Dairies office manager.
He is survived by his wife Kimi of Waimea; daughter Kimberly Odo-Chang, of Honolulu; grandchildren Christopher and Khale Odo-Chang both of Honolulu; brothers Yoso (Lois) Odo of Honolulu and Seiichi Odo of California; sister Natsuko “Nancy” (Frank) Nomura of Honolulu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Junichi Hashimoto
Junichi Hashimoto of Waimea passed away on Feb. 15, 2008, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 81. Born on June 4, 1926, in Waimea, he was a firefighter with the county of Kaua‘i.
He is survived by his wife Kiyoko Hashimoto; son Miles Hashimoto of ‘Ele ‘ele; daughter Avis Onaga of Waipahu; four grandchildren; sisters Otome Hashimoto of Los Angeles, Calif., Yaeno Nishikawa of Honolulu and Setsue Iinuma of Gardena, Calif.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Verda Davis
Verda Davis died Feb. 28, 2008, at the age of 91. She was born Jan. 11, 1917, in Nuckolls County, Neb., to Ralph and Alma Hoffman. She had one brother, Ronald Hoffman (now deceased); one sister, Donna Breazeale of Lihu‘e; and one foster sister Sylvia Jordan (Tinkham) (deceased).
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Noel Davis, owner of Columbia Neon in Portland, Ore., who died May 23, 1991. They had one daughter, Dorinda (Rindy) Beeler who lives in Fairview, Ore.
She is also survived by three grown grandchildren, Ryan, Noel’ and Dea Beeler; four great-grandchildren, Kayden, Danielle, Noah and Ronan; stepson Bill Ardiss and stepdaughter Marjorie Linn.
For many years Verda and Noel had enjoyed spending several months each year on the island of Kaua‘i at their timeshare, Mokihana. It was there that Verda’s adventurous life ended at the age of 91, while she was under the skillful care of her daughter Rindy.
A celebration of her life is being planned for a later date in Portland, Ore. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to: Kauai Hospice, P.O. Box 3286, Lihu‘e, HI 96766; American Cancer Society; or to the Kauai Humane Society, 3-825 Kaumualii Highway, Lihu‘e.
Anthony “Boy” Mata
Anthony “Boy” Mata of Waimea died Feb. 29, 2008, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital at the age of 52. Born Sept. 22, 1955, in Hawai‘i, he worked in the food service industry.
He is survived by wife Kawailana Kaohi-Mata; sons Jovan (Christine) Mata, Kalae Mata and Laakea Kaululaau; daughters Jory (Taz) Mata-Atamian and Kauakea (Kaua Boy) Mata; five grandchildren; hanai daughter Kanani Mata; mother Yolanda (Hale) Hauki; brother Brian (Madonna) Mata; sisters Mona (Scott) Mata, Iwalani (Kimeona) Kanaulu and Kehau Mata; and numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, at 9875 Kahakai Road in the Waimea family residence, beachside. Casual attire is suggested.

Virginia T. Vidinha
Virginia T. Vidinha of Kekaha died Feb. 26, 2008, at her home in Kekaha at the age of 103. Born June 14, 1904, in Portugal, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by husband Joe M. Vidinha and son Andrew Vidinha.
She is survived by daughter Virginia Howell of California; daughter-in-law Norma Vidinha of Kalaheo; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, at St. Theresa’s Church in Kekaha. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Kekaha Public Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested.
