WAILUA — A 46-year-old Kapa‘a woman sustained minor injuries after the septic truck she was driving yesterday overturned.
According to county officials, it was not known at press time how much raw sewage spilled on the roadway, but the truck had been filled with approximately 3,200 gallons of sewage.
The accident occurred around noon on Kainahola Road between Kainahola Reservoir and the Kapa‘a Poi Factory.
As a result, Kainahola Road was closed for approximately 11/2 hours.
Mary Daubert, county spokeswoman, said that the driver, who works for Soares Septic Services, had lost control of the truck, causing it to roll onto its side and spill its load.
A call to Soares Septic Service confirmed that April Soares was operating the truck.
Police and the Kaua‘i Fire Department Hazmat team responded to the incident along with state Department of Health officials.
Police said speed was a possible factor in this incident.
Soares was taken to Wilcox Hospital as a precaution but was released a short time later.
