KIF announces winter all stars
Kapa‘a High School senior Chance Bukoski was voted the Player of the Year by the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation for the second year in a row, as the KIF announced its winter all stars this week.
Kapa‘a, who won the KIF title and went on to become the state runner-up at the Division II Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association’s state championship tournament, placed seven players on the all-star list. Kapa‘a head coach Kevin Cram also received Coach of the Year honors for the second year in a row.
On the girls side, Jocelyn Enrique, who is making her second appearance as a soccer all star, was named the Player of the Year. Kapa‘a’s girls also placed seven players on the all-star list and head coach Crissy Marti is also making a repeat appearance on the list, being named the Coach of the Year for her second year in a row.
Basil Walton of Kaua‘i High School received top honors for boys basketball. The senior, who finished the season as the league’s leading scorer, was joined by three of his teammates. Head coach Ipo Yoshioka returns as this year’s Coach of the Year for taking the Red Raiders to another state championship tournament.
Mai’lika Napoleon of Kapa‘a was named POY on the girls’ side. Napoleon and Coach of the Year Terri Maguire led the Lady Warrior basketball team to winning five straight games which earned them the KIF title.
Top paddlers were singled out for each event, with each school being represented in almost every event. Kapa‘å, who won the KIF championships, fared the best placing eight of its paddlers on the list.
For swimming, Kaua‘i dominated the list with swimmers Matt Ross and Tyson Chihara named in several events.
Kapa‘a’s Emma Rausch was also named in multiple events.
