The Eco-Roundtable will be held tonight at 6 p.m. at the War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihu‘e. It will focus on the immediate issues facing Kaua‘i along with long-term sustainability planning, according to a press release. In a newly formed action-oriented approach, the meeting will consist of informative updates and participation in action group breakouts.
Organizers feel the most productive way to address the issues and move forward is to network and build coalitions.
The meeting will include updates on pressing issues to Kaua‘i including the possible spraying of pesticides near Waimea Middle School, Koke‘e, the over-development in Koloa, cruise ships and GMO taro.
A highlight of the meeting will include an update on 2008 state legislation, as well as what is happening on the county level.
Action breakout groups in the areas of oceans, housing, food, energy, transportation, waste, ahupua‘a/watershed, military and chemicals will meet and discuss the best ways to stay informed and get involved.
Because several community groups are already working on some of these issues, tonight’s meeting will allow them to network and exchange ideas with other organizations.
