Councilman Mel Rapozo officially filed for re-election Friday, seeking a third term to the County Council.
He currently serves as the council’s vice chair and also chairs the Public Works Committee.
In addition to his leadership positions with the County Council, he also serves as president of the Hawaii State Association of Counties, which is comprised of representatives from each of the four Hawai‘i counties.
Nationally, he is a member of the Western Interstate Region of the National Association of Counties board of directors as well as a member of the Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee of NACo.
As a councilman, Rapozo has championed veterans’ issues and is a strong advocate for the preservation of the rural character of Kaua‘i.
Rapozo served 12 years with the Kaua‘i Police Department from 1984 to 1996 and is retired from the Hawai‘i Air National Guard after 21 years of service.
He has been active with various community organizations over the years and currently serves as the commissioner for the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League, treasurer for the Boys and Girls Club Kaua‘i Branch and board member with the American Red Cross Kaua‘i Unit.
He owns and operates M&P Legal Support Services, LLC — a private detective agency — and is a certified identity theft risk management specialist.
Rapozo is a Kaua‘i High School graduate and holds an associate in science degree in criminal justice and is working toward a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Everest University, according to a news release.
He was born and raised on Kaua‘i and currently resides in Lihu‘e with his wife, Patsy, and children Baron and Nicole.
