Farewell to Mama Fabro. Mercedes Yoro Serra Fabro died Feb. 14, 2008, at Garden Isle Health Care at the age of 97. She was born in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on Sept. 24, 1910, and retired as a teacher for adult education for citizenship on the island of Maui. She was a former president of the Filipino Catholic Club, co-owner of restaurants in Maui and Honolulu, and was owner of Fabro Care Home in Hanama‘ulu.
She is survived by her son, Danny Serra of Lihu‘e; daughter Mildred (Mike) Jakubec of Virginia Beach, Va.; brothers Paul (Ciudad) Yoro of Mililani, Alejandro Yoro of Honolulu, David (Marty) Yoro of Tennessee; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
A “Farwell to Mama Fabro” celebration will be held on March 8 at Immaculate Conception Church. Visitation with the family will begin and 8 a.m. and mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
The family requests aloha attire.
