The Kapa‘a High School girls basketball and Kaua‘i High School boys basketball teams will make bids for the state basketball title starting tonight.
Unseeded in the Hawaiian Airlines Girls Basketball State Championships, Division II, the Warrior wahine, earning its KIF title in a playoff against Waimea last week, will open its state bid against St. Francis starting at 6 p.m. at the Kalani High School gym on O‘ahu.
A win on opening night will advance the Warriors to go up against Division II top seed McKinley on Wednesday night.
Kamehameha-Hawai‘i holds the second seed in the Division II girls basketball bracket followed by Maryknoll and Molokai at third and fourth seeds, respectively.
Punahou has the top seed for the Division I girls bracket followed by Waiakea, Kalani and Lahainaluna high schools.
The girls tournament will end on Friday with the championship game tipping off at 6 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa.
Kaua‘i High School boys, also unseeded in the Division II boys bracket, will open play Wednesday night against McKinley High School starting at 8 p.m. at Pearl City High School.
A win against the Tigers will pit the Red Raiders against second seeded University High on Thursday, also at 8 p.m. in Pearl City.
Aiea High School holds the top seed in the Division II boys basketball bracket followed by University.
The Kohala Dragons hold the third seed with Molokai rounding out the top four.
The championship game for Division II boys basketball will take place at the Blaisdell Arena starting at 6 p.m., Saturday.
Iolani holds the top seed in Division I boys basketball followed by Konawaena, Mililani and Kamehameha-Maui.
The boys’ basketball games will be broadcast live by Anahola Joel Pahukula on KQNG AM570.
