Mokihana Aquatics, along with the county of Kaua‘i Parks and Recreational Aquatics Division and the University of Hawai‘i Swimming and Diving team, announced last week that the organizations will hold a three-spring swimming league set for spring break.
The three-spring league means that from March 17 to March 29, the three organizations will hold a free, brief league at each of the major pools: Waimea, Kaua‘i and Kapa‘a.
Anyone who is capable of swimming 25 yards by any stroke is eligible to sign up for the league provided he or she is not a member of any organized swim club.
The league, for Kapa‘a and Waimea, will be from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., Monday through Friday. For Kaua‘i, it will run from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday through Friday.
Two members of the Hawai‘i swimming and diving club, a boy and a girl, will be at each of the sites to coach the swimmers in the league. The collegiate swimmers who will be on-island for the league have not yet been determined.
The league will conclude on March 29 with a “lollipop” meet where each swimmer will compete for a lollipop. The top-place finisher picks his or her own lollipop, but everyone participating will receive one.
In conjunction with this league, Mokihana Aquatics will hold its “Learn to Swim” program for beginners, babies and toddlers. No advanced classes will be taught because of the free league.
