Kapa‘a 70, Waimea 58 — Kekoa Prem led the Warriors with 24 points to defeat the Menehune of Waimea High School 70-58 last night at the Bernice Hundly Gym.
Kapa‘a High School’s Prem scored 15 of his total points in the first half, snagged three steals, put up two assists and finished 5-for-6 from the foul line.
John Berales added 13 points, 14 rebounds, three assists and a block. Matt Lindsey finished with seven points. Kila Youn had 6 points and nine rebounds. Cody Abrigania also finished with 6 points and came up with five steals.
Kapa‘a was up 4 points going into the half, but Waimea’s Braxten Garma got the Menehune within reach when he opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer — one of his three on the night.
Garma finished with 13 points, three rebounds and five assists. Jayrald Watanabe and Kaimana Girod who both finished with 12 points. Girod also posted nine rebounds and three steals. Watanabe had eight rebounds and two steals. Bransen Agu finished with 11 points and four rebounds.
In the junior varsity game, Kapa‘a beat Waimea 50-30. The Warriors were led by Stephen Greenleaf who finished with 16 points. The Menehune were led by Micah Rita and Malcolm Carter who finished with 10 each.
