Despite a second-half hat trick from Eli Leech-Kritchman, the Sharks couldn’t overcome a 3-2 halftime deficit to fall 6-5 in the Squirt division match last week.
Due to the NFL Super Bowl game, Sunday, only Friday night games were on the docket for the YMCA of Kaua‘i Inline Hockey Association.
Kawai Peahu netted four goals to lead the Todd Mayer Green to a 7-4 win over the Bulls in the Bantam division contest, and continued to finish with a hat trick and an assist to lead the Green team to a 7-2 edge over the Blue team in the Midget division matchup.
Paced by a hat trick from Nina Antony, Edward Punua Jr. put the Bruins up 6-2 in the second half, his goal finding the net at the 10:15 mark.
But Eli entered the arena for the Sharks and netted the last two of his hat trick at the 5:49 and 2:20 marks, respectively, to attempt a comeback.
Helping the Sharks’ effort were goals from Chanel Tremblay and Kainalu Gandia.
Following Antony’s lead, Shannon Sitzler, Thor Haugland and Punua finished with a goal and an assist each.
Josh Lakotas, goaltending for the Bruins finished with 31 saves on 36 shots while Tomas Sanchez, tending for the Sharks, finished with 14 saves on 20 shots.
Chanel Tremblay, with just 36 ticks remaining on the Bantam game clock, iced the Todd Mayer Green victory. Tremblay, who anchors the Squirt division games, also finished with an assist in the win.
Kawai Peahu set the pace with his four goals followed by Chanel and Kala Yee who scored a goal and had an assist. Cascade Mayer finished with a goal while Zack Lewis and Stephanie Steuri each had an assist.
Jean-Luc Tremblay paced the Bulls’ effort with two goals followed by Eli Leech-Kritchman, another strong Squirt division player, and Kawaiiki Punua adding a goal each. Marcus Punua finished with three assists, Prisma Verzosa finished with two assists and Lyle Nemeth had an assist in the effort.
Bulls’ goalkeeper Marissa Aceret finished with 18 saves on 25 shots while Stephanie Steuri, tending for the Mayer Green, was 30 saves on 34 shots.
Following Peahu’s lead in the Midget Green win, Matthew Heller added two goals with Jean-Luc Tremblay and Sierra Mayer each firing a goal. Justin Fujikawa finished with an assist.
Greg Balmores paced the Midget Blue effort with a goal and an assist followed by Zack Rodriguez finishing with a goal and Lyle Nemeth adding an assist.
Midget Blue goalie Carl Tennberg finished with 39 saves on 46 shots while Pierce Int-Hout, tending for the Midget Green, finished with 23 saves on 25 shots.
The inline hockey league continues with games on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons at the Kapa‘a rink.
