The state Senate committee on Water and Land has scheduled a public hearing Saturday for Senate Bill 3221. The bill, introduced by Kaua‘i Sen. Gary Hooser, calls for a state effort to acquire the Coco Palms resort and convert it to a public historical park and cultural education center. If the bill is passed, the state would provide matching funds for the venture in partnership with public and private non-profit entities. The committee will take written testimony for or against the bill and requests that persons wishing to testify submit their testimony at least 24 hours prior to the hearing by e-mailing testimony@capitol.hawaii.gov or faxing it toll-free to 1-800-586-6659. Interested persons can also testify before the committee Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in Room 229 at the state Capitol.
