Several recent electrical fires have resulted in the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative inspecting and troubleshooting lines throughout the county.
KIUC line supervisors were working yesterday in Kapa‘a to repair lines that weren’t affected by recent fires but found as a result of inspections done in their aftermath.
Kauai Pasta in Lihu‘e sustained an estimated $200,000 in damages after a fire broke out in its kitchen Jan. 18.
On Saturday, Kapa‘a clothing store Glitter burst into flames after an electrical fire also caused an estimated $200,000 damage in its 1,200-square- foot space.
County officials reported the cause as the result of a failed surge protector.
KIUC spokeswoman Shelley Paik said as a proactive measure, KIUC Member Services Representatives will be calling everyone on the affected line and instructing them on how to file a claim if they have suffered any losses.
“We will go through our regular investigatory process from there,” Paik said in an e-mail.
Anyone affected should call 246-4300 for additional information.
