PO‘IPU — Alexis Vasconcelles charged into the arena to set the pace for the Barrel Race on an 18.91 go.
That pace stood until the second half of the field entered the CJM Country Stables arena, and when the dust settled, Alexis’s time missed the top five listing.
Kristyn Vasconcelles finished in fourth place on an 18.492 go, and that helped her en route to being named the all around champion for the first rodeo of 2008 hosted by the Kaua‘i All Girl Rodeo Association.
Along the way Kristyn, who also holds the crown for Miss Rodeo Hawai‘i 2007, picked up another fourth place in the Steer Undecorating event with a 22.749 go, a second place in the 1stD of the 3D Pole Bending with a 22.031 go, and a third place finish in the Dally Team Roping event where she teamed with Corinna Vasconcelles for a 15.792 go.
Britni Braun, finishing the Barrel Race a scant .082 faster than Kristyn, was awarded the reserve champion honor following the six events witnessed by a large number of fans who took advantage of the cool winds and sunny skies to fill the bleachers.
Braun tallied an 18.410 go for her third place Barrels position and followed that with a first place in the 1stD of the 3D Pole Bending where she weaved the pattern on a 21.638 go. Teaming with Hoolai Braun, Britni chalked up a 17.381 go in the Dally Team Roping event and finished fifth in the Breakaway Roping event with a 22.930 go.
Marti Snyder topped the 1stD in the Barrels with a 17.889 go. Kim Medeiros topped the 2ndD on a 19.754 go, and Nancy McMahon topped the 3rdD with a 20.904 run.
