Juan P. Lorenzo Sr.
Lovingly referred to as “Mr. Aloha” because of his caring and friendly demeanor. Juan P. Lorenzo Sr. will be sorely missed by all.
Juan was born on Oct. 20, 1926, in Ilocos Norte, Philippines. He was a hard-working man who spent many years working for the island at McBryde Sugar Co., Kauai Electric and Citizens Utilities. After his retirement from Citizens Utilities, his disciplined work ethic and drive to do the best job possible landed him a great amount of electrical contracting work. He spent much of his life working on Hawai‘i, and when it came time to defend his home, he joined the Hawaii Army National Guard, from which he received an honorable discharge. He continued to support his Kaua‘i through countless hours of community service for the Holy Cross Catholic Church, for which he was awarded the title “Island Treasure.”
He also became a world traveler with his wife Helen and explored many countries far from his little island home. Of all the amazing lands he traveled to, his favorite place was Las Vegas, where he could enjoy his favorite pastime — playing the craps tables.
Juan was a fun, loving and genuinely sweet and gentle man who was always ready and willing to help anyone. “Mr. Aloha” will live on in the memories of his friends, family and the many island visitors he stopped to “talk story” with. He is in our prayers.
He is survived by his wife Helen R. Lorenzo of Kalaheo; sons Juan (Gail) Lorenzo Jr. of Kalaheo and Melvin Lorenzo of Kalaheo; daughter Cynthia (Dan) Lorenzo-Albosta of Calif.; brother Jerry (Maria) Lorenzo of Lihu‘e; nephew John (Nati) Lorenzo of Koloa; grandchildren Celeste (Aleksandr) Lorenzo of Wash.; Kevin Lorenzo of Honolulu; Jessica Greenwalt of Calif.; Mari Lorenzo of Hanapepe; Mason Lorenzo of Hanepepe; Derek Albosta of Calif.; Brad Nelmida of Kalaheo; Megan (Arthur) Rice of Kalaheo; great-grandchildren Tehani Togioka, Anthony Andrews, Daysha, Kaimana, Daedryn Nelmida; numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo where mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Father Nap. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Church Cemetery.
