KAPA‘A — Kawai Peahu finished the weekend with 10 goals and two assists, but that firepower fell short as the Todd Mayer Green dropped both its weekend series. Peahu also added a hat trick and two assists to lead the Midget Green to a 7-4 Friday night win over the Midget Blue.
Peahu, who tied with the Bulls’ Jean-Luc Tremblay in Sunday’s game, finished with seven goals and an assist, but the TM Green dropped that contest 13-10 in the Bantam division of the YMCA of Kaua‘i Inline Hockey League.
Earlier, the TM Green got a hat trick and an assist on Friday night, but dropped a 6-5 heartbreaker to the Devils who picked up the win on a demonstration of balanced scoring and teamwork.
Cydney Sitzler and Troy Spears led the Devils attack Friday with a goal and two assists for Sitzler and two goals for Spears. Matthias Davis and Michael Alonzo each netted a goal while Lauren Spears added an assist in the Friday night win.
Trailing 4-1 at the half, the TM Green charged back with a 4-2 second half only to fall short at the buzzer.
In that period, Peahu netted his hat trick and an assist. Ben Steuri and Zack Lewis also scored a goal for the TM Green effort with Kala Yee adding an assist.
Stephanie Steuri, who donned the goalkeeper gear for the weekend series, finished with 20 saves on 26 shots Friday. She worked for 32 saves on 47 shots during the Sunday effort.
Daniel Alonzo, who tended goal for the Devils Friday, was 27 saves on 32 shots.
Marissa Aceret, tending the cage for the Bulls on Sunday, finished with 27 saves on 37 shots.
Eli Leech-Kritchman finished with a blistering nine goals in a strong comeback effort from the blue-shirted Sharks in the Squirt division game, Sunday.
Trailing 10-1 at the half, the Sharks came back with eight goals to the Bruins’ single goal to finish with a 12-10 loss, Leech-Kritchman doing all the goals from all areas of the arena as well as through the legs of Bruin defenders.
Tyler Lewis added a solo goal and Malia Alonzo, still trying out her rink wheels, finished with an assist to Leech-Kritchman at the 11-minute mark of the second half to the thunderous applause from the audience.
Edward Punua and Chanel Tremblay paced the Bruins’ offense with four goals apiece, Punua adding an assist. Anthony Nina and Thor Haugland each finished with two goals, Nina also chalking up an assist in the win.
Joshua Lakotas, the Bruins’ goalie, finished with 26 saves on 36 shots while Tomas Sanchez, tending for the Sharks, was 23 saves on 30 shots.
Joining Peahu on the Midget victory, Trevor McCracken and Pierce Int-Hout each netted a pair of goals for the Midget Blue.
Zeeb Leech-Kritchman netted a pair of goals to lead the Midget Blue effort with Cydney Sitzler and Zack Rodrigues each finishing with a goal, Sitzler adding an assist in the battle.
Blue goalkeeper Carl Tennberg finished with 24 saves on 30 shots while Greg Balmores, the Green’s keeper, had four saves on just nine Blue shots.
Hockey action continues at the Kapa‘a rink on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. Friday action faces off starting at 6:30 p.m. with the Sunday action getting underway at 1:30 p.m.
