Darelne Kehaulani Kanei-Mendes
Darlene K. Kanei-Mendes returned back to her Father in Heaven on Jan. 13, 2008, at the age of 53. She was born in Honolulu and raised in Lihu‘e. She was a graduate of Kamehameha School class of 1972. She was employed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village as a Hotel Engineer.
She is survived by her mother, Jeanette Mendonca of Lihu‘e; hanai mother Elizabeth Punohu; sisters Melanie Hodge (Mike) of Glendale, Ariz., and Christine Kanei of Salt Lake City, Utah; brothers Hal Mendonca and Joey Mendonca of Lihu‘e and Kalani Mendonca of Hanalei; children Ivan Kanei, Jantzen Kanei-Mendes, Jasmine Mendes and Kaha’i Kanei-Mendes of Honolulu; grandsons Kahiku and Keawe of Honolulu; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her fathers, Lawrence Kanei and William Mendonca, and her husband, Charles Mendes. Her death was unexpected.
Kanei-Mendes enjoyed making crafts such as needlepoint and wedding decorations. She was a generous, kind and compassionate person who loved life.
Viewing will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Jan 23 at Mililani Downtown Mortuary, 20 South Kukui St. in Honolulu. Services will follow from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Ruth Tazuye Malama
RuthMalama of Kekaha died in Honolulu on Jan. 4, 2008, at the age of 84. She was living in Honolulu for the last five years. Born in Waipahu, O‘ahu, on Dec. 24, 1923, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joaquin Malama Sr., and daughter Eileen “Ulu” Malama.
She is survived by sons Joaquin “Moki” (Anita) Malama of Honolulu and Stephen Malama of Kekaha; daughter Lolly Malama of Kekaha; hanai children Roseline “Lokalia” Tremaine of Hanapepe, Rosedale “Jack” Leoiki of Honolulu, Robert “Boobie” Leoiki of Kekaha, Rodney “Charman” Leoiki of Kekaha, Pinky (Paddy Boy) Malama of Kekaha, and Sharon Leoiki of Hanapepe; 23 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the residence of Lolly, 4524 Akepa Road, kekaha. The service will begin at 3 p.m. with burial to follow at the Hawaiian Cemetery in Kekaha. Casutal attire is suggested.
Roberta Shirley Morris
Roberta Shirley Morris of Lawa‘i died on Dec. 2, 2007, at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 72.
She was born on Sept. 3, 1935, in Kukui‘ula.
She is survived by sisters Lillian (Bill) Cramer and Constance “Connie” (Reuben) Ramkissoon; brother John Phillip Morris; and numerous nieces, nephew and cousins.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at Lawai Valley Seventh Day Adventist Church.
