Circles of Light received a “Healing Our Island” grant of $1,500 last spring from the Mayor’s Office and as a result has been holding weekly after-school art classes in six locations around Kaua‘i in conjunction with the Kaua‘i County Anti-Drug Program.
Activities include mask making, painting, working with clay and other media.
Children in these programs also learn to set reasonable goals and track their achievement.
Activities are designed specifically to encourage youth to play nicely together in a productive and safe environment.
Programs are offered family style, with snacks being provided. Family members are always welcome to attend.
Ongoing programs are held at Kapa‘a Public Housing, Lihu’e Court Townhomes Mutual Housing, Hui O Hanama‘ulu Housing, Kalaheo A+ Program, ‘Ele‘ele A+ Program and Kekaha Neighborhood Center.
All classes are free of charge and open to youth ages 5 to 12 years-old.
