Mitsuji “Birdie” Nakayema
Mitsuji “Birdie” Nakayema of Hanapepe died at his home on Dec. 31, 2007, at the age of 77.
Born in Waimea on Jan. 16, 1930, he was a retired supervisor with Olokele Sugar Company.
He is survived by his wife, Mitsuko; son Trent (Tammy) Nakayema of ‘Ele‘ele; daughter Doris (Christopher) Runice of Maryland; one granddaughter; brother Mitsukazu (Fujiko) Nakayema of Hanapepe; sisters Yoriko (Shigeru) Inouye of Honolulu and Sumiko Kawasaki of Kona, Hawai‘i; and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service officiated by Pastor Phyllis Meighan of the Hanapepe United Church of Christ will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel. Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
