Lynnette Keiko Kyono Meatoga

Lynnette Keiko Kyono Meatoga of Kalaheo died on Dec. 18, 2007, at St. Francis Hospital on O‘ahu, at the age of 43.

Born Dec. 6, 1964, she was the county of Kaua‘i IT administrator.

She is survived by her husband Kenny Meatoga, sons Vaughn Meatoga and Kaleomana Meatoga, and daughter Kelly Meatoga, all of Kalaheo; mother Jean Shizuko Kyono of Kalaheo; brothers Steven (Kathie) Kyono of Lawa‘i, Russell (Tisha) Kyono of Lawa‘i, Glen (Suzie) Kyono of Kalaheo; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her father, Sparky Kyono.

Lynnette was a board member of the Kaua‘i Jr. Golf Association, Kalawai Youth Baseball Association and the Kamehameha School’s Association of Kaua‘i.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Kalaheo Missionary Church. Viewing will begin at 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and service to follow. Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.


Loretta Apilado

Loretta Maria Lordes Martinez Apilado of Kilauea died Dec. 21, 2007 at the age of 78.

Born in Kilauea, on Feb. 2, 1931, she was a pantry prep cook for over 15 years at the Kauai Resort Hotel (Aloha Beach Resort).

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Apilado (Chris) Schumacher of Kilauea; stepsons Herminio Apilado of Montebello, Calif., and Justin Apilado of Kilauea; grandson Philip Waldemar of Kilauea; sisters Maria Miranda of Kilauea, Trinidad Barbusa of Wahiawa, and Precides Busto of Kilauea; brothers Elpidio Martinez of Yucaipa, Calif., Feliciano Martinez of Wahiawa and John Martinez of Honolulu; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio “Tony” Apilado.

Friends may visit with the family from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, at the Calvary Chapel North Shore in Kilauea. Memorial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens. Refreshments and pupus at the family’s residence.

Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Apilado family with arrangements.


Bienvenido Cabasag

Bienvenido Cabasag died Dec. 20, 2007, at Wilcox Hospital from cardiovascular complications at the age of 64.

He was born April 17, 1943, in Abulug, Cagayan, in the Philippines.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Estrella Tesoro Cabasag; children Benedict (Edith) Cabasag, Maricel Cabasag, Johann (Claire Ann) Cabasag, Bienvenido “Bing” (Angeline) Cabasag, all of the Philippines; eight grandchildren; sisters Fe (Tony) dela Cruz on O‘ahu, Caridad Cabasag of the Philippines, Norma Cabasag and Lynn Cabasag, both of Canada; brothers Arturo Cabasag on Kaua‘i and Alex Cabasag of Canada.

Bienvenido “Bien” Cabasag was a college professor in the Philippines and retired as the Northern Philippines regional assessor supervisor. He and his wife, Estrella, moved to Kaua‘i in May of 2001. He worked as an educational sssistant at Kaua‘i High School, served as a security guard and was the proprietor of Star Taxi and Tours.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, Dec. 27, at the Aloha Church. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. and service will be at 5:30 p.m. officiated by Pastor Vill Galiza.

Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.


Harold Sora

Harold Harunori Sora of Kapa‘a died Nov. 27, 2007, at Hale Malamamalama at the age of 95.

Born May 25, 1912, in Lapiule, Kaua‘i, he is survived by sons Richard (Hiroko) Sora of Kaua‘i, Gilbert (Irene) Sora of California; daughters Victoria Matsuo of Hilo, Jeanette (Ronald) Shimabukuro, Edith Kido; sister Tamayo Matsuda of Kaua‘i; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private services were held.
