Four chartered Aloha Airlines aircraft will take University of Hawai‘i Warrior football fans and boosters to New Orleans next week for Hawai‘i’s Sugar Bowl match-up against the University of Georgia.
The first of Aloha’s four Sugar Bowl charters will depart Christmas Day, carrying fans who booked their travel arrangements with Travel Ways, a Honolulu travel agency. Two more chartered Aloha jets depart Dec. 28 with the UH marching band, UH cheerleading squad and the Rainbow Dancers. A fourth charter, arranged by a private individual, will depart Dec. 29 with more fans.
Aloha’s chartered Boeing aircraft carry between 124 and 162 passengers, depending on the model. Aloha Airlines carried the University of Hawai‘i Warriors football team to all five of their victorious road games in their undefeated 2007 season.
“The Aloha Airlines ‘ohana is behind the Warriors all the way,” Aloha President and CEO David A. Banmiller said in a press release.
Howeber, Hawaiian is carrying the team’s players, coaches, support staff and family members. The team will board a special non-stop flight to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl on Christmas Day.
“Everyone at Hawaiian is excited to be a part of this historic trip, and we will be very focused on delivering the team on time and well rested,” Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian’s president and CEO, said in a press release.
The group will depart Honolulu at 5:15 p.m. Dec. 25 and arrive in New Orleans Wednesday morning at 5:10 a.m. The return flight departs New Orleans at 11 a.m. Jan. 2 and arrives in Honolulu at 3:35 p.m. In addition, Hawaiian is operating two special nonstop flights for Warrior fans as part of a package with Panda Travel. The package includes airfare, three nights in a five-star hotel, ground transfers and a game ticket to the Sugar Bowl. The flights depart Honolulu on Dec. 29 and 30, and return Jan. 2 and 3, respectively. Hawaiian will use its B767-300ER aircraft, seating 264 passengers, to operate the three special flights.
