Just as many have jumped on the University of Hawai‘i Warrior football bandwagon, media personalities have jumped at the opportunity to pay tribute to them.
Singer/entertainer Willie K., comedian Frank De Lima and accoustic/folk parody singer Ryan Parker have written songs praising the Warriors for their undefeated season.
De Lima recorded a song to the tune of Tim McGraw’s “I like it, I love it.” De Lima’s version, “Hawai‘i, we did it,” highlights the Warriors’ come-from-behind win over Washington to finish undefeated.
It was that win, the Ha’a and Hawai‘i’s Bowl Championship Series berth that also inspired Wilie K., broadcaster Robert Kekaula and Hawaii’s unofficial mascot, Vili the Warrior, to record “Warriors Cry.”
The rock song features chants from Vili the Warrior and fans, vocals by Willie K., with Kekaula’s broadcasts in the background.
In contrast to that is an accoustic version, “Hawai‘i’s Warriors,” by Parker. His version says Hawai‘i is much more than a vacation destination and that Hawai‘i knows how to win and that’s all they know.

DeLima’s and Willie K.’s songs will be released for purchase. Parker’s can be viewed on his Web site along with the video slide show.
