KAPA‘A — The Waimea Junior Varsity boys struck first, but could not get past the strong Kapa‘a defense and brisk winds Thursday.
Kalama Resquer-Yorkman scored in the 15th minute of play to give Waimea a 1-0 lead going into the half, but Kapa‘a answered on a Joseph Enrique goal in the 62nd minute for the 1-1 tie.
The tenacity of both teams were tested on the field as Kapa‘a received two misconduct warnings from the center referee while Waimea got one
On the girls side, Kapa‘a shut down the Menehune wahine 10-0 with nine Warrior ladies scoring.
Kaimalie Zirker paced the Kapa‘a win with two goals in the shutout. Other Warriors breaking the goalmouth plane include Sierra Mayer, Kyara Bunao, Shannon Paleka, Chauncie Garcia-Brown, Kiah Shigeta-Koizumi, Jessica Lactaotao, Seri Niimi-Burch and Shealyn Sugai.
The Kapa‘a JV teams will be hosting Kaua‘i High School at the Kapa‘a New Town Park complex starting at 10 a.m. today. Varsity games start from 1:30 p.m.
Waimea JV will also be in action as it hosts Island School at the Waimea Canyon Park. No starting time for that game was available.
