Gini Kapali was going crazy balancing between the Holiday Party for Foster Children, the Lights on Rice parade and the crazy wind and rain. But she did a good job as did all the other Kukui‘ula Development people who showed up to help Marcia Ota and her Committee with the party.
But soccer was calling, and it was off to the KIF soccer season opener … what a great bunch of coaches! Never got to see Galen Kawakami at the Forestry Arbor Day event, but now’s the season as he’s one of the coaches with Blanche Arakaki for Kaua‘i.
Todd Fuerte and Kevin Cram of Kapa‘a are both shutterbugs at heart so mix in some snaps between coaching.
And with JV playing on Thursday, coaches Kevin Devitt and Karl Ubongen were pacing the sidelines.
Out in the parking lot, Eugene Punzal went to get stuff from his car, but had time to say what a great feeling it is to see so many of Kaua‘i’s athletes excelling on the collegiate level … coach Jon Kobayashi must be in Florida with Jordon Dizon waiting on the Butkus announcement, and no Officer Darla Abbatiello at this year’s Lights on Rice parade since she’s in Florida, too.
Dean Nakayama got his Sugar Bowl letter from UH, but said he’ll just stay at home and enjoy ozoni for New Year’s.
Speaking of which, Earl Miyao said the HGEA will be doing its kadomatsu project again the weekend of Dec. 22. Place your orders early … they sell out every year, and the proceeds help Kaua‘i’s youth bound for college.
