Niumalu meeting Monday

Residents of the Niumalu community are invited to participate in a community meeting this Monday at the Niumalu Park Pavilion. The informative meeting will address the issue of the diesel exhaust fumes that often drift over the Niumalu community.

“The purpose of this meeting is to look for solutions to an obvious problem,” Niumalu resident Gary Craft said.

Sen. Gary Hooser, D-Kaua‘i, will be present at the community meeting.

“I have received numerous telephone calls from residents in the area regarding the fumes,” Hooser said. “It’s something we need to do something about.”

Hooser also said he is not sure if there needs to be more rules and regulations regarding the cruise ships docked in Nawiliwili Harbor or whether a new law needs to be made.

The community meeting will start at 5 p.m.
