Ninety-five Nazarene Youth International members and their sponsors from across the state of Hawai‘i visited Kaua‘i during the Thanksgiving weekend school break to complete community service projects for the Hanapepe Church of the Nazarene and its community on the Westside.
The projects included St. Theresa’s School in Kekaha, Hanapepe Stadium Park pavilion and bathrooms, washing windows and screens and doing lawn work for parishioners of HCN, and landscaping/cleaning the playground area and recycling at Kalaheo Elementary School.
They camped out at Salt Pond Beach State Park. Their meals were prepared and served by many of the members of the Hanapepe Nazarene Church congregation.
They enjoyed spiritual services on Friday and Saturday evenings and again on Sunday morning. Amid their hard work and worship times they enjoyed this beautiful island playing games at Kahili School gym and water games at Salt Pond Beach Park.
Before going back to their respective islands on Sunday afternoon, they were honored guests at the annual Thanksgiving dinner at HCN.
Leadership at the state level was provided by Rev. Tim Cruz, District Nazarene Youth International Director and Youth Pastor at Kane‘ohe (O‘ahu) Church of the Nazarene. On the local level, leadership was provided by HCN Youth Pastors Dan and Lori Leibbrand.
