Blues player Daryl Davis on Kaua‘i this week
From blues and rockabilly to zydeco and country music, Daryl Davis has played piano and guitar with legendary musicians — Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley’s Jordanaires and Muddy Waters’ Legendary Blues Band to name a few.
Davis will be on Kaua‘i this week for three shows: 8 to 10 p.m. Wednesday at Small Town Coffee in Kapa‘a; 8:30 to 11 p.m. Thursday at Sushi & Blues in Hanalei; 9 to midnight Friday at Rob’s Good Times Grill in Lihu’e. Robb’s charges a $5 cover, all others are free.
As an accomplished pianist, Davis played in Chuck Berry’s original band. He was the featured pianist on Cephas and Wiggins’ 1992 Grammy Award winning album, Flip Flop & Fly and had two hits of his own: “Boogie Man” and “Broadminded.” As a composer, he scored the music to the children’s story, “Abigail” and is also the author of “Klan-destine Relations” a non-fiction book that goes to the heart of discrimination and prejudice through interviews with Klu Klux Klan members.
